In relation to the conduct literature of the late 18th century, a varied list of European works due to their convergence in the concern and interest in the education and instruction of young people. The type of analysis advocated by Bolufer (2002) observes at a European level the development of female education and allows the analysis of contributions that made Enlightened authors coincide in different genres. Following this line of work, this study analyses the contribution made by scientist Erasmus Darwin (A Plan for the Conduct of Female Education, 1797)
and explores its curious convergence with the ideas that Jovellanos would later write in his exile in Mallorca (Memoria sobre educación pública, 1801) or with the observations on the English woman that Moratin had collected earlier in his Apuntaciones sueltas de Inglaterra (1792-93).

Key words: Conduct literature, Erasmus Darwin, Jovellanos, Moratin, female education and instruction, European Enlightenment.

Within the well-known tradition of British and American authors who lived and described the history of Spain during the first half of the twentieth century, the work of Jenny Ballou records the tense calm before the Spanish Civil War in the last days of the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Ballou, who has been compared to George Orwell, recreated in Spanish Prelude (1937) a peculiar travelogue with journalistic and literary traces. Portraits of multiple characters decode attitudes, experiences and emotions in a paradoxical time where the daily routine is mixed with the gestation of the revolutionary spirit. In this context, this study describes Ballou’s contribution to the realistic representation of the Spanish woman in a range that encompasses different social, literary and political classes.

Keywords: travel writing, Spanish women and Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, Americans in Spain, Jenny Ballou, Spanish Prelude.

Eight mouse hybridomas with haemagglutination capacity to swine blood group antigens were obtained, three of them producing antibodies capable of being used as blood group reagents. Two detected the Ba factor and another the Fa factor. The others gave non-specific and weak reactions or cross-reaction with antigens present in more than one system. We conclude that mouse monoclonal antibodies are also suitable for use in swine as a complement of polyclonal reagents.
