Resumen de Expedición a la Isla "Storia": un taller para jóvenes historiadores. Metodología de la investigación y el entorno informático en la enseñanza de la Historia

El taller "para jóvenes historiadores" (1) constituye un concepto innovador para la enseñanza de la historia. Sus partes son paralelas a los pasos de una investigación: observación, localización de acontecimientos, recopilación y clasificación de fuentes, reconstrucción y estudio del hecho central, razonamiento y análisis junto a la redacción de un trabajo científico. Todo ello basado en los siguientes principios: *Comprender la estructura de la historia como disciplina; *Mostrar su enorme potencial como base para dirigir y cultivar capacidades cognitivas avanzadas; *Desarrollar la percepción de utilidad de las herramientas de investigación propias de la Historia; *Aprender cómo aplicar las últimas tecnologías de investigación; *Adquirir técnicas de aprendizaje práctico, de los materiales y acontecimientos próximos a la experiencia del alumnado y activar el proceso de aprendizaje abstracto por medio de la aproximación orientadora del taller; *Presentar la investigación del alumnado en forma de trabajo multimedia o informático. Objetivos de Audiencia. Durante los tres últimos años ha sido enseñado a diferentes niveles en escuelas de Israel, al ser lo suficientemente flexible como para adaptarse a un amplio espectro de curricula, enriqueciendo y fortaleciendo los aspectos investigadores del proceso de aprendizaje. Actualmente se emplea el programa "My Family's Roots" en 7º; el "Second Temple" en 10º; y el de redacción de investigaciones de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales en 11º grado. El taller es auspiciado por el Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute y el Ben-Gurion Research Center, ambos dirigidos por el Dr. Tuvia Friling. Las conexiones entre estos centros académicos y las aulas dependen de unos factores vitales: la infraestructura en comunicaciones e informática de las escuelas y la preparación y motivación de los profesores embarcados en el proyecto: - Escuelas con equipo informático invitadas a usar un CD-ROM para alumnos, reforzable con bases de datos digitalizadas compatibles con el curriculo común. El programa presentado en la conferencia combina selecciones de materiales y ejercicios prácticos para lograr la asimilación y evaluación de conocimientos, permitiendo al profesorado seguir y guiar al alumno. - Escuelas conectadas por Internet al Ben-Gurion Centre: sus archivos sirven al banco de datos del alumno, que es guiado por los instructores del taller (el enlace es por suscripción anual). Productos del Taller. Los estudiantes tienen como objetivo presentar diversas investigaciones basadas en procedimientos científicos. El trabajo final irá acompañado de una presentación informatizada, con un amplio abanico de elementos multimedia: fotografías, mapas, gráficos, grabaciones, documentos de Internet, etc.. Aquellos que lo prefieran, pueden realizarlo como obra de teatro, juego de simulación o cualquier otro medio creativo. En la conferencia expondremos: los medios multimedia, los seis principios básicos, ejercicios aplicados sobre cada principio -que permiten al alumno recibir información directa del profesor sobre correcciones y evaluación- , una introducción al potencial del programa para la enseñanza multimedia de la Historia con métodos de investigación actuales; y, su adaptabilidad a cursos escolares o a actividades de aprendizaje más avanzadas. The Workshop for the Young Historian (1) is an innovative concept for teaching the discipline of history. The various parts of the workshop parallel the research stages of a historian starting with observations, locating the focal event, collecting and classifying source material, reconstructing and analyzing the central event, reaching conclusions, making evaluations, and compiling a research paper according to scientific guidelines. The following principles form the basis for the workshop: * Understanding the deep-structure of history as a discipline. * Viewing the discipline's enormous potential as a basis for instructing and cultivating advanced cognitive skills. * Enhancing an awareness of the research tools inherent in the field of history * Learning how to apply the latest, high-tech research technologies to the discipline of history. * Acquiring learning skills on the practical level via material and events close to the pupil's experience, and then raising the learning process to the abstract level through the workshop's approach towards studying history. * Presenting the pupil's research results either in the form of a computer-based multimedia display or as a digitalized data-bank. Target Audience. For the past three years our workshop has been taught at different scholastic levels in a number of Israeli schools. The workshop is sufficiently flexible to adapt to a wide-range of curricula in order to enrich and strengthen the research aspects of the learning process. It is currently employed in the seventh grade "My Family's Roots" program; the tenth grade "Second Temple" program; and the eleventh grade program for writing research papers in the humanities and social sciences. The workshop is conducted under the auspices of the Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute and the Ben-Gurion Research Center, both of which are directed by Dr. Tuvia Friling. The links between the academic center, educational institute, and school classrooms where the workshop is conducted are modular connections that depend upon a number of vital factors: the communications and computer infrastructure of the participating schools, and the specific requirements and motivation of the teachers accompanying the project. - Computer-equipped schools are invited to log-on to the workshop through an interactive compact-disc for pupils' individual work, which can be further reinforced via digital data-bases compatible with standard school curricula. The program to be presented at the conference combines information selections with practical exercises to enable the pupil to gain instant feedback and evaluation of his work, and provide the teacher with the advantage of tracking and guiding the pupil's efforts. - At schools directly connected to the Ben-Gurion Research Center through the Internet, the Ben-Gurion Archives serves as the pupils' private digital data-bank, and pupils have the benefit of individual guidance and counseling from the workshop instructors. Workshop Products: The goal of workshop is for students to present their research results as a scholarly paper written according to academic standards. The final paper will be accompanied by a computer presentation that includes as wide a range as possible of multi-media elements: photographs, film-clips, maps, charts, sound recordings, Internet documents, etc. This will be displayed at the conference. Students who prefer, can exhibit their project as a theater performance, a simulation game, or through any other creative media. The following subjects will be presented: The rationale's six underlying principles; exercises and application in modular form of each of the principles which enable the pupil to receive immediate feedback through the teacher's simultaneous checking and evaluation; an introduction to the program's potential in an interactive, online, computerized environment for teaching history through actual research methods; the adaptability of the workshop's principles to either standard school courses or advanced enrichment activities.
