El objetivo de esta comunicación es la de ofrecer una panorámica de las actividades de la Sección Histórica del Instituto Holandés para los servicios de información científica. La Sección Histórica del NIWI, originariamente conocida como el Archivo Histórico Holandés de Datos (NHDA), se encuentra desde septiembre de 1997 incluída en el NIWI. Después de una amplia introducción sobre el NIWI, donde se incluye un repaso a su estructura organizacional, y revisar de forma general la mayor parte de las actividades de la Sección Histórica (conservación y difusión de datos, digitalización de información histórica, cursos, etc.) el Instituto Holandés desarrolla tres proyectos principales que pueden resumirse a continuación: 1. El proyecto del Censo Histórico Holandés. Constituye un proyecto unido de la Oficina Central Holandesa de Estadística y el NIWI. La Sección Histórica se dedica a digitalizar el Censo Holandés que fue publicado entre 1795 and 1971. Este censo tendrá su plasmación en un CD-ROM. 2. Un plan de Información para el Instituto Holandés de la Documentación de Guerra situado en Amsterdam. 3. El Proyecto Académico del Patrimonio Digital. Como es conocido tanto las universidades como los institutos de investigación trabajan cada vez más con información digital. Este proyecto se centra en la selección y preservación de la información académica en formato digital.

The aim of the paper is to give an overview of the activities of the Historical Section of the NIWI: the Netherlands Institute for Science Information Services. The Historical Section of the NIWI was formally know as the Netherlands Historical Data Archive (NHDA). In September 1997 the NHDA became part of the NIWI. After a broad introduction on the NIWI, its organisational structure and an overview of the main activities of the Historical Section (preservation and dissemination of datasets, digitalisation of historical information, concultancy, courses, etc.) three major projects that NIWI was or is involved in will be singled out: 1. The Dutch Historical Census Returns Project. This is a joint project of the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics and the NIWI. The Historical Section is currently digitizing the Dutch census returns that were published between 1795 and 1971. The census returns will be published on CD-ROM. 2. Information plan for the Netherlands Institute of War Documentation in Amsterdam. 3. The Academic Digital Inheritance Project. Universities and research institutes more and more have to deal with digital information. This project focuses on the selection and preservation of Academic digital information.
