Influencias de la relación social en el estado de bienestar de los ancianos institucionalizados en centros geriátricos

    Se presentan los resultados obtenidos en una investigación empírica, de campo de corte descriptivocorrelacional, con una muestra de 130 ancianos institucionalizados en dos residencias valencianas (España). Junto a los datos sociodemográficos básicos (edad, sexo,…) se ha evaluado aspectos como el tiempo de institucionalización, la cantidad y tipo de visitas, su estado general de salud, actividades que realizan, medicación y bienestar percibido. Los resultados muestran que la gran mayoría de ancianos (86,6 %) valoran positivamente las visitas de familiares y allegados, apuntando unas interesantes relaciones positivas con un mejor estado de salud y más actividades recreativas. Lamentablemente, los datos también constatan la reducción de estas visitas con el paso del tiempo de permanencia en la residencia.

    This study shows the results obtained through a field, descriptive/correlational research carried out in130 institutionalized elderly subjects in two nursing homes in Valencia (Spain). We evaluated different factors: sociodemographic variables (age, gender…), the period of institutionalization, the amount and type of visits, their general health condition, daily physical activities, medication prescribed and perceived well-being.

    The findings indicate that most of the subjects (86.6 %) highly value receiving visits from relatives and friends pointing out interesting positive relationships with a better state of health and a great number of recreational activities. Unfortunately, the data gathered also show a decrease in the number of visits the longer the subjects stay in the nursing home.
