El Parlamento ha sufrido especialmente las tensiones provocadas por la pandemia del COVID-19 en todo el mundo. Al desempeño de sus funciones de control, en un momento en que el ejecutivo recibía o asumía poderes extraordinarios, ha añadido una recuperación progresiva de sus funciones legislativas y el mantenimiento de su papel simbólico, de “servicio esencial”, transmitiendo con la continuidad de su actividad y su presencia en la sede de la soberanía nacional un mensaje de ejemplaridad pública. Estos objetivos han tenido que convivir con el mantenimiento de la salud de sus miembros y su personal, y con la necesidad de respuestas rápidas y eficaces ante problemas inéditos e imprevistos.

Parliament has suffered particulary from the tensions caused by the Covid’19 pandemic around the world. To the performance of its control functions, at a time when the executive received, or assumed, extraordinary powers, it has added a progressive recovery of its legislative functions and the maintenance of its symbolic role, of “essential service”, transmitting with the continuity of its activity and its presence in the headquarters of national sovereignty a message of public exemplarity. These objectives have had to coexist with the maintenance of the health of its members and its staff and the need for quick and effective responses to new and unforeseen problems.
