El Mediterráneo está muy presente en la vida y en la obra de Miguel de Cervantes. Es el mar de la Batalla de Lepanto, el mar de su cautiverio en Argel, y el mar de muchas de sus travesías secretas. El mismo mar Mediterráneo estará también presente, como es obvio, en su obra, sobre todo con aquellas que tienen Argel como su geografía. En el presente trabajo se analiza la presencia del Mediterráneo en la “Historia del cautivo” en la primera parte del Quijote en la iconografía quijotesca, desde las primeras representaciones en el siglo XVIII hasta algunas actuales, destacando el imaginario creado por Gustave Doré en París en 1863

The Mediterranean is very present in the life and works of Miguel de Cervantes. It is the sea of the Battle of Lepanto, the sea of his captivity in Algiers, and the sea of many of his secret voyages. The same Mediterranean sea is obviously also present in his works, above all in those that have Algiers as their geography. This essay analyzes the presence of the Mediterranean in the “Captive’s Tale” (Don Quixote, part I), in its iconography, from the earliest representations in the eighteenth century until the present, with emphasis on the imaginary created by Gustave Doré in 1863
