Resumen de Riesgos en la transición a la educación terciaria. Narrativas sobre cómo se perciben y gestionan

  El acceso al nivel educativo terciario a través de la vía educativa universitaria, por un lado, y de formación profesional, por el otro, conlleva diferentes grados de riesgo. Así que los estudiantes, cuando eligen, están evaluando cuánto riesgo están dispuestos a correr y ello trae consigo cuestiones de equidad según el prestigio social de cada vía. En este trabajo estudiamos cómo los estudiantes de diverso origen social toman decisiones educativas, cómo viven su itinerario formativo y las previsiones futuras que avanzan.

  Los datos proceden de 19 entrevistas realizadas a estudiantes de formación profesional y universidad (2017-2018). Los estudiantes, según su origen social, difieren en algunos aspectos: cuando un estudiante de clase media-alta elige la vía de formación profesional acostumbra a entrar en conflicto con su familia; los estudiantes de clase trabajadora viven su relación con el dinero de una manera más tensa. En cambio, todos muestran un gran optimismo en cuanto al futuro éxito académico y de trabajo.

  Access to tertiary education through university pathways, on the one hand, and vocational education, on the other, brings different degrees of risks. When students make their choices, they are assessing the risk they are willing to take, and this raises questions of equity according to the social prestige of each pathway. In this paper we explore how students from diverse social backgrounds make educational choices, how they experience their educational pathway and the future prospects they advance. The data come from 19 interviews with vocational training and university students (2017/2018). Students differ in some respects according to their social background: when an upper-middle class student chooses the vocational training pathway, they tend to come into conflict with their family; working class students experience their relationship with money in a tenser way. On the other hand, they all show great optimism about academic future and work success.
