We report the results of a project developed with the purpose of translating the Odyssey into the sequential language of comic or cartoon strips, hoping to reclaim the imagistic strength of the epic attributed to Homer. In the process, we have chosen not to emphasize narrative content, but rather give priority to the style and the rhetorical devices used in the Greek text. This approach seeks to counterbalance some commercial adaptations of Homer which focus on the rewriting of content and plot. We have attempted to associate comics, ancient rhetoric and music, specifically Brazilian music, within the narrative process, thereby opening up the possibility of approaching visuality through figures of speech inside the ancient Greek text
