La Ley 3/2007, de 22 de marzo, publicada en el BOE el viernes 23 de marzo del mismo año ha cambiado la estrategia de acción en materia de igualdad de oportunidades entre mujeres y hombres. La historia, desde la aprobación de la Constitución española de 1978, ha encaminado las actuaciones por la vía de las políticas sociales; pero la Ley supone un giro sustancial, que tiene sus implicaciones no solo jurídicas sino también políticas. El artículo ofrece, en primer lugar, un balance histórico sobre el tratamiento de la igualdad en España. En segundo lugar, se analiza la Ley 3/2007. Por último se proponen algunas conclusiones y sugerencias.

The Law 3/2007 (22 March 2007) has changed the strategy of action in the area of equal opportunities between women and men. Since the Spanish Constitution of 1978, that action went typically through the channel of social policies; this law entails a substantial shift with legal and political implications. This paper contains, first, a historical overview of the treatment of equality in Spain, and second, an analyisis of the 2007 Law.
