Resumen de Zoomusicology and musical universals: the question of processes

Dario Martinelli

  • This article focuses on that portion of zoomusicoligical studies called processes, i.e. behavioural patterns belonging to the realm of the para-musical, including the whole cultural dimension of making music, its rituals, social rules and so on. A particular attention will be given to the processes displaying the establishment of a relation between animals and space (i.e., music as a ritual and social occasion; music and bodily movement; number of performers; the cultural dimension of music;and the management of soundscape, primarily the musical imitation of it). The analysis is transpecific, in that it compares the appearance and the developments of the mentioned traits across different species (the so-called musical universals), notably including the human one.
